Sports Therapy is an aspect of Osteopathic healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention and rehabilitation of injury, to aid your return to full functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, within the shortest time possible.
Combining the principles of sport & exercise sciences, Sports Therapy assists your preparation for training, competition or your occupation.
Sports Therapy is the treatment & rehabilitation of musculo–skeletal injuries, ranging from muscle strains to fracture rehabilitation. Deep tissue massage, soft tissue manipulation, joint articulation & mobilisation, Active Release Therapy (A.R.T), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) and APS Electro-Therapy are all techniques utilised during treatment.
Active Release Therapy (A.R.T)
With a success rate of over 90%, Active Release Therapy has become one of the most sought after soft tissue treatments in the world today. Used to treat repetitive motion injuries, Olympic athletes take advantage of the treatment’s benefits, as do injured athletes who wish to quickly return to their training protocols.
A.R.T is a state-of-the-art soft tissue management system that treats injuries which occur in Muscles, Tendons, Ligaments and Fascia.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM)
IASTM utilises a special form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation similar to the Graston Technique. Special stainless steel instruments are utilised during treatment to detect and treat areas in which adhesions, scar tissue and restrictions are causing pain or limiting performance. The stainless steel instruments are used to identify and treat the areas of fibrotic tissue. Once identified, the instruments are used to break-up the scar tissue in order for it to be re-absorbed by the body. IASTM has to proved to have positive outcomes in 75 to 90 per cent of all conditions treated. It is equally effective in restoring function to both acute and chronic injuries.
APS (Action Potential Simulation)
APS Therapy has revolutionised the treatment of sports injuries & pain, and represents the latest development in rehabilitation technology. APS Therapy is without rival in the treatment of pain & sports injury, the mobilisation of stiff joints and the reduction of swelling without the intake of medication. APS technology stimulates the body’s natural repair process far beyond its normal levels of healing.
